The idea of faith comes from the Hebrew word “aman” which has the connotation of something that supports like a foundation, something which is unshakable, firm, stable, trustworthy, faithful, something that can be leaned upon. What is amazing is that faith has been made manifest in Jesus Christ, in that you see faith in personhood. Paul says in Hebrews 11:1 that faith is the substance or the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. He then reveals in Hebrews 12:2 that Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith.
Let me break this revelation down for an easy understanding. What Paul is trying to tell us is that faith is no longer something that is difficult to see. Jesus is the evidence of the faith, not only that, He is the Alpha and Omega of faith. When you look at Jesus Christ you’re looking at faith revealed, faith manifested, the assurance of faith, the testimony of faith, the supporter of faith, the trustworthiness of faith, the shelter of faith, the citadel of faith. Jesus is the proof of what faith looks like. If you want to define faith look at Jesus, if you want to talk faith look at Jesus.
When Peter took his eyes off Jesus he began sinking in the sea.
So when you are fixing your eyes upon the faith (Jesus Christ) you are looking at someone who has all the authority in Heaven and on earth vested with Him. When you cleave your faith to God in faith in Jesus Christ wait upon Him patiently for He will never let you down. People will let you down but continue trusting in the Lord and waiting upon Him patiently. Cleave to His promises, His promises are real. Faith requires patience, resting and quietly waiting upon the Lord (Psalm 112:7, 73:26, 62:5). I guarantee you He will come through for you. May the name of the Lord be praised.
